Save Money on your Grocery Bill

Grocery stores are heavily marketed for impulse purchases. From the displays by the front doors to product placement on each shelf to loss leaders, their marketing strategies are studied by marketing students around the nation. How many times have you gone into the grocery store for a gallon of milk and walked out with a shopping cart full of items? How often have you decided on your weekly menu and then gone to the store with your shopping list of ingredients, only to pay full price for each of those ingredients?
If there is a way to reduce your grocery spending, it is TheGroceryGame.com. TheGroceryGame website started as a hobby, matching coupons with store sales. It has now grown to cover most major grocery stores in 48 states. The idea behind the website is it uses a database to track store sales and match them with newspaper coupons. According to the website, stores put each category of items on sale every 12 weeks. By stocking up on the items that are on sale, you stop paying full price for each food item. When you have stocked your pantry, you can plan your weekly menus by browsing your pantry (that you bought on sale) instead of your recipe book.
Ninety percent of the time the best grocery deals are on items that are on sale and combined with a coupon. TheGroceryGame recommends subscribing to a local newspaper that includes the Valassis and SmartSource Sunday coupon inserts. The website offers a four-week trial subscription for $1.
Since December 2005 my family started using the TheGroceryGame website. On average, we save 40% off of our grocery bill each week. If TheGroceryGame supports a grocery store in your area, I recommend signing up for the $1 trial for four weeks to see how much you can save.
