RSS Feeds and Live Bookmarks
RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a way for websites to publish their headlines in a summary format that computer applications, such as Mozilla Firefox, can subscribe to and display to the user. On each of my computers, I have a small list of news sites that provide RSS feeds. In Firefox, pressing Ctrl-B opens the bookmarks sidebar (both bookmarks and live bookmarks appear, RSS feeds in Firefox are displayed via live bookmarks). By adding the RSS feeds from my favorite sites and keeping the bookmarks sidebar open, whenever I want to browse the latest news, I simply open Firefox, and it automatically downloads the latest headlines in RSS format.
Live bookmarks allow me to quickly scan the latest news headlines, and if I want to read a news article, I click on the live bookmark, and the web page opens in Firefox. Reading the news via RSS feeds and live bookmarks allows me to quickly scan the latest headlines whenever I open my browser and without the need to visit the site and sort through the advertisements and the news stories.
This blog also has an RSS feed that you can subscribe to. Visit http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html for more information on how to subscribe to this and other RSS feeds in Firefox.
